About us/Introduction
Agriculture Research Station Swabi established in October, 2013 after successful completion of a four years (2008-09 to 2012) project “Establishment of High Value Crops Supply Chain Research Station, Swabi” on 82 acre leased land of Auqaf Department.

Functions
Objectives
§ To evolve improved varieties of horticultural, cereal and oil seed crops.
§ To introduce potential traditional and non-traditional fruits, vegetables, cereal crops and off-season vegetable production technology in the area to increase farmers income in a sustainable manner.
§ To make recommendation for the control of insect pests and prevailing diseases of the field and horticultural crops.
§ To improve the fertility status of soil for sustainable agricultural production through proper and judicious use of fertilizer and to develop technology to utilize water resources efficiently through water/crop management techniques (irrigation methods, rain water harvesting, balanced fertilization, high efficiency irrigation systems etc).
§ To train farmers in improved crop management techniques and agricultural related ventures such as home scale fruit and vegetable preservation, kitchen gardening, in-doors mushroom production etc., through adaptive research, seminars, field-days and mass media.

VISION:
1. Enhanced awareness among the farmers to adopt advance agriculture technology and to escalate yield per unit area.
2. Improved livelihood of the farmer’s of the area
Future Plan:
1. Establishment of fruit plants observation and multiplication block.
2. Establishment of Fruit plants nursery.
3. Provision of certified bud wood and graft wood to registered nursery growers.
4. Provision of certified fruit plants for the establishment of fruit orchards.
5. Evaluation and promotion of High Value Crops.
6. Development and selection of high yielding cereal and horticultural crop varieties.
7. Production of pre-basic and basic seed of field crops.

Technological Improvement in Research and Strengthening of Agriculture Research Stations of KPK.
Achievements
§ Quality seed of wheat and maize produced each year are provided to the farmers through Agriculture Extension Department to enhance their per unit yield.
§ Work on the introduction of potential non-traditional fruits like fig, pomegranate and litchi have been started and are planted in the observational block.
§ To promote horticulture industry in the District and produce certified fruit plants of peach and plum, budding have been done on peach and plum seedlings.
§ Ten accessions and five improved lines of cucumber have been introduced from AVRDC, Taiwan and are tested for adoptability, characterization and seed increase.
§ Breeding work on okra and cucumber has been started. 15 F1 of okra produced previous year were evaluated. Hybridization among different varieties of okra and cucumber are being started to develop improved variety/hybrid of these vegetables.
§ Germplasm including accessions, pure lines, opvs and hybrids of tomato, okra, chilies, onion, peas and tomato crop has been collected.
§ Work on the introduction of seasonal and off-season vegetables production technologies has been started.
§ Advisory services to the farmers of the District are provided regularly; trainings and field days are conducted in the research station to educate farmers on improved production technology of horticultural, cereals and vegetable crops.
§ Research facilities and technical guidance are provided to the graduate students of various Agriculture Universities of the Province.

Advisory services on fruits, vegetables and cereals are regularly provided to the farmers of the area
Provision of fruit plants
Certified fruit plants are provided to the farmers to improve horticulture industry in the District.
Provision of Quality seed
Quality seed of wheat and maize produced in the Research Station are provided to the farmers though Agriculture Extension Department to improve per unit yield.
Soil & Water analysis
Soil & water analysis are being regularly conducted to solve soil & water related problems of the farmers and ultimately improve their production.
