Official Message from Head of the Department

As the Head of Agriculture Research Station Charsadda, I am pleased to acknowledge your dedication and hard work in advancing our research initiatives. Our collective efforts are vital in improving agricultural practices and ensuring food security in our region. Let's continue to innovate and collaborate, driving forward our mission to support sustainable farming and uplift the agricultural community. Thank you for your unwavering commitment.

Brief History

In 2012-13, this agriculture research station was initiated as a project and officially became a station in 2016. Since then, it has played a crucial role in advancing agricultural research and development in the region. Our team has been instrumental in conducting groundbreaking research, providing valuable insights and solutions to local farmers, and promoting sustainable farming practices. We remain committed to enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring food security for future generations.

Functions

  • Development of high yielding and disease resistant varieties in vegetables and cereals
  • Production technology for various crops
  • Soil analysis for fertilizer recommendation

Mandate

  • Advisory services to farmer and agriculture graduates.
  • To conduct comprehensive research on fruit, vegetables, cereal crops, sugar cane, oil seed crops etc. to develop new improved varieties for the area.
  • Development of new production technologies for fruit, vegetables, cereal crops, sugar cane, oil seed crops and other important crops for the area.
  • To devise cost effective integrated crop management techniques for a sustainable agricultural production in district Charsadda.
  • Introduction of non-traditional fruit and vegetables using modern technology.
  • To provide training to framers of the area for home scale fruit and vegetables processing / preservation, through adaptive research trials, seminars, field-days, radio talks and social media etc.

Achievements

  • Developed long bean new variety “Charsadda Bean”.
  • Produced 5000 kg (approximate) Basic seed of Azam & Jalal Maize varieties.
  • Produced and sale 3700 mnd seed of sugarcane varieties.
  • Collection and plantation of grapes lines (24) and Fig lines (18).
  • Construction/ cementing of irrigation water channel is in progress on 20 acre.
  • White washing and painting of office building.
  • Wheat seed production 1008 mnds

Vision/Future Plan

Our vision is to transform the Agriculture Research Station Charsadda into a leading hub of agricultural innovation and sustainability, driving the agricultural sector towards greater productivity and resilience. Over the next decade, we plan to:

  • Enhance Research and Development:

Expand our research efforts to include cutting-edge technologies and methodologies, ensuring the development of high-yielding, disease-resistant, and climate-resilient crop varieties that cater to the specific needs of the region.

  • Promote Sustainable Agriculture: Develop and implement sustainable farming practices that balance productivity with environmental stewardship. This includes integrated pest management, soil health improvement, and water conservation techniques.
  • Foster Technology Adoption: Introduce and disseminate modern agricultural technologies such as precision farming, smart irrigation systems, and advanced crop monitoring tools to local farmers, enhancing efficiency and reducing costs.
  • Strengthen Farmer Education and Training: Expand our outreach programs to provide comprehensive training and support to farmers. This includes workshops, field demonstrations, and digital platforms to share best practices in crop production, processing, and preservation.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Build strong partnerships with government agencies, research institutions, and the private sector to leverage resources, share knowledge, and drive collective action towards agricultural advancement.
  • Support Non-Traditional Crops: Promote the cultivation and commercialization of non-traditional fruits and vegetables using modern technology, diversifying income sources for farmers and meeting market demands.
  • Ensure Food Security: Focus on research and practices that enhance food security in the region, ensuring that the agricultural sector can meet the growing needs of the population in a sustainable and resilient manner.
  • Through these initiatives, we aim to empower farmers, boost agricultural productivity, and contribute to the overall economic development of Charsadda, making it a model for sustainable agriculture in the region.
