Official Message
Before 1991, Buner was the integral part of District Swat. It was declared as separate district in January 1991. It lies between 34°9' to 35°43' North Latitude and 72°10' to 72°47' East Longitude. Buner district is completely surrounded by hills. Its natural resources include forests, Agriculture (Tobacco, Wheat, Maize, Fruits and Vegetables), Marble mines and Stones for building construction.
Total area of district Buner is 425905 Acres in which cultivable land is 136443, irrigated is 16858, rain fed is 119585 while uncultivated land is 289462 Acres. The climatic condition of Buner is marked by two distinct seasons i.e. winter and summer. Lowest minimum temperature in December and January ranges from 8 to minus 3°C. The highest Maximum temperature ranges from 40°C to 44°C during May to July. Annual rainfall ranges between 672 MM to 1198 MM.
The Agricultural Research Station, Buner is situated in to the central position of district Buner. It is located at Amnawar, Dewana Baba road in Alikhamera area which is 11 kilo meter away from the main city of Sawari.
Agricultural Research Station, Buner is a multi-disciplined organization involved in research to improve agricultural productivity of the area through evolving high yielding, pest resistant crop varieties and improved production technology appropriate for the agro-ecological environment of Buner district. The overall mandate of the station is “Research for the farmers”.
Objectives
- Initial breeding work on evolving new fruit varieties have been started with the establishment of mother blocks/plants of citrus, peaches, apricot, plum and pomegranate. Breeding work for development of new varieties of vegetables, cereals and oilseed crops will also be started.
- The cost effective integrated crop management practices and packages of production technology for different crops and fruits have been developed and disseminated amongst the farmers. Work on development of new and improved production technologies of vegetables will also be started with priority basis.
- Preliminary studies for optimizing nutritional requirements of crops have been conducted and studies for development of biological control based protection measures for controlling notorious pests of different crops are being standardized. Based on these studies recommendations will be made to increase and enhance farmer’s income on sustainable basis.
- Pre-basic and basic seeds of improved varieties of wheat and maize have been maintained and multiplied and distributed among the farming communities through Agriculture Extension Department of District Buner on yearly basis.
- Improved production technologies of various crops i.e. wheat, maize and fruits have been disseminated/disseminating through on farm research trials, field days and farmer trainings etc.
Future Plans
- Continuation of research activities considering weather conditions and requirements of rain-fed areas for: -
- Evaluation/Development of Wheat and Maize varieties.
- Research on the use of organic and mineral fertilizers for profitable/economical crops yields.
- Raising of fruit nurseries i.e. Citrus and stone fruits for farming community.
- Training of farmers in advanced crop production and protection technologies.
- To establish an economic integrated crop management practices and packages especially for production of fruits and vegetables.

- NUWYT Trials under rain-fed condition in collaboration with CCRI Nowshera.
